Possible Candidates To Replace Louis Van Gaal Following His Sack At Manchester United
With Rafa Benitez set to remain at Newcastle, Carlo Ancelotti confirmed for Bayern Munich and Pep Guardiola already a Mancehester City manager, the market is in need of top class coaches for Manchester United to look at.
Despite Jose Mourinho being touted as the one to take over from Van Gaal in the media, Manchester United are yet to make any statement to deny or accept his impending arrival.
Hence we take a look at the FIVE managers who may replace Van Gaal at the Old Trafford;
1. Jose Mourinho: The favorite to take over from the out going manager. Offers shot term solution to United’s problems but his arrival could halt the progress of Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard,Timothy
Fosu-Mensah
Reports claim Manchester United paid Mourinho a staggering £4million to reject the advances of any club looking to his services.
Mourinho is expected to be given £200m to spend on new players when he signs a five-year contract worth £75m.
2. Ryan Giggs: The Glazer family, who own Manchester United, are reportedly putting measures in place ahead of Ryan Giggs’ appointment as the club’s next manager.
That’s according to Adriano Boin of Marca, who stated that the club “are keen to replace Van Gaal with a figure that won’t overshadow the club,” and as such, they will turn to the Dutchman’s current assistant manager instead of the controversial Portuguese coach.
3. Andre Villas Boas: Will leave Zenit at the end of the season which was a disappointing one by the club’s standards.
Won the treble of Portuguese cup, Europa League and Primera Liga with Porto in 2012 but has failed to inspire at Tottenham, Chelsea and Zenit and has already said he will take a one year sabbatical.
4. Jorge Sampaoli: The Chilean was expected to take over at Chelsea but ultimately lost out to Antonio Conte ‘because I was not good enough to speak English’. Won the 2015 Copa America with Chile and has been named one of the best tacticians in the game.
Brings attacking football but has never been tested in Europe.
5. Gary Monk: If Manchester United want some one with Premier League knowledge and a very attacking style of football mindset, then Gary Monk is your man.
Was a success at Swansea City, leading the club to its highest ever position and point tally but was sacked this season with his side moving closer to the relegation zone. Still highly rated and he has been labelled as the man to take over from Arsene Wenger when he leaves.
