Tina Knowles-Lawson Reveals A Deeper Meaning Behind Beyonce’s ‘Lemonade’ Album

Beyonce made the world stop again on April 23 when she dropped her sixth solo studio album, Lemonade. Packed alongside a worldwide premiere event on HBO which detailed a video for each song, the images displayed on the screen showed the beauty of black women that wowed viewers. But it was also the lyrical content that perked everyone’s earbuds.

With themes of infidelity to forgiveness, some listeners thought that Jay Z and Beyonce’s marriage was previously in trouble. Now, Bey’s mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson, speaks out on what the project actually entailed besides the notion of marital issues.

“People make it all about the cheating and betrayal and, yes, that’s a part of it because that is something you have to heal from,” she said in an interview with ABC 13. “If you really listen to the poetry it is one of hope and redemption and hopefully that can be healing for people.”

Ms. Tina also recalled a time in her past relationship when she experienced a sensitive moment, and how the comfort of her family and friends helped regain her strength.

“I remember my first little pity part and I called them crying and you know, they all came,” she said. “We had a slumber party, we watched old movies all night and ate ice cream–it was very healing.”
